The choice of elevator will significantly affect the energy use of the building. In order to give you a better choice of elevators, Elevator Supplier Fuji will explain the difference between hydraulic elevators and traction elevators.

Traction elevator

The elevator runs under the pulley system, where the metal rope is connected to the top of the elevator car and rises through the "pulley" in the engine compartment. It is this type of pulley that works like a grooved pulley that tightly supports a metal rope or cable. The weight is on the other side of the rope, equal to the weight of the elevator car half full, providing a balance for the car. It uses less energy than a hydraulic lift because the motor is only used to overcome friction and because the counterweight system does not involve lifting. When the heating, cooling, and lighting systems are idle, most of the energy used by these elevators is idle. Using LED lighting and fan timers will help reduce energy consumption.

Hydraulic elevator

Hydraulic elevator systems use hydraulic fluid and pistons to move the elevator car up and down between floors. Because of their safety and reliability, some people like them rather than other elevator systems. They are common in low-rise homes because they are easily lifted between floors. They work by pumping hydraulic fluid through a valve into the cylinder of the hydraulic arm. The pressure of the hydraulic oil forces the piston to rise and the elevator car pushes up. This process is reversed, allowing the elevator car to return safely. When the trip is reduced and lost completely, the energy used to lift the elevator cannot be recovered because the hydraulic elevator does not use a counterweight system. Hydraulic elevators use more energy. Many major elevator manufacturers no longer offer hydraulic lifts.

The upfront cost of the traction lift is higher than the hydraulic model, but its energy efficiency is significantly improved. The hydraulic model consumes 30 times more power than the traction lift.
